Funny Face

I've been busy this week preparing to start teaching private piano lessons at Heartland Baptist Bible College and finishing up orders so I've not had time to share much. So I though a few pictures would be fun. This was from Sunday afternoon after church. Calleigh was just full of fun funny faces. She is 15 months now and just growing like a weed. I just love her giggle. She's such and girlie girl and I love it. She has fallen in love with baby dolls and her blanky and is always carrying them around. Have a great weekend everyone.

Oh and I couldn't leave out little man! he picked out this pic. It was cell phone photo from Target some time this summer. The Starbucks inside were handing out Frap samples and we got this super cute photo!

Smile & Enjoy!

My first pattern- Crochet Headwrap

A friend of mine is learning to crochet . She found a really cute headband and asked if I'd seen a pattern for it. I hadn't but I knew I could come up with one. Plus I've been itching to try my hand at writing a crochet pattern. This was a really easy one to start with and I hope you'll enjoy it.

UPDATE : Aug 28th , 2010

Thanks you testers for testing the pattern. I have it out to a few people on facebook but only heard back from one. My lovely mom tested it and got great feed back from those to so I'm off to try to sell my first pattern. I'm so excited.

Pattern is not longer availble on my blog! If you wish to purchase it. Please come by my Etsy shop!

Tutorial Bandana Apron

Oh sew easy Bandana Apron- takes maybe 10 minutes or less. Can be made for as little as $2.00

I get bandana's and ribbon at hobby lobby. Most bandanas are .99 -1.99 and ribbon is 1.99-3.99 but the ribbon is usually 50% off. Not every week but almost every week. If it's not on sale give it a week or two and it will be. I  know that the ribbon is on sale this week Aug 23-Aug 29, 2010

Materials:
one Bandana 22x22 (standard size)
60 inches of grosgrain ribbon 5/8's or larger (whatever you prefer- Just about any size will do)
Sewing machine and white or coordinating thread
iron

1. Iron your bandana
2. pin ribbon to top edge of the bandana (right side up)
3. Sew together along the top edge and the bottom edge of the ribbon and your done!
Be sure to back stitch  beginning and ending stitches. Also heat seal you ribbon ends to prevent fray.
I use a regular lighter, just be careful not to burn your finger. ( speaking from experience, but I use it on a daily basis making bows.)

I made mine slightly different because this bandana I bought had a defect - there was a random slice in the fabric along the top edge I missed when I bought it for a dress. Before I sewed on the ribbon I made two sewing lines about 1/4 inch apart and gathered up the bandana a little then I pinned on the ribbon and sewed it together like above. Here is mine! I just used what I had on hand. I'm going to eventually make up some zebra, leopard and other fun print ones too!

These would make a great christmas present. Bandanas come in many prints and solid colors! You could also easily just use a scrap of fabric around 24 X24 inches you would just need to hem all the way around. If you make some up please feel free to email me a photo. I'd love to see what you come up with.

***don't know how to sew - try this no sew version I found on Ashely Ann's Blog

Enjoy!

Favecrafts Apron Pattern ebook review

Favecrafts recently put together another free e-book for 8 apron patterns. They asked for people do review and I decided to give it a whirl.

Favecrafts is a fabulous website if you're looking for 1000 of different free ideas in sewing, crochet, knitting and so much more.

The free e-book includes patterns for a lined apron, Sassy Apron, Pillowcase apron, coffee bag apron, reversible scrap fabric apron, quick and easy apron, halloween apron and Cupcake apron.

I only tried 2 of them which included the pillow case apron and the quick & easy apron. I would love to try them all but don't have the time just yet. Maybe later.

The pillowcase apron was so easy. I think I made it up in less than 15 minutes. The instructions were easy to understand for me and I would consider myself a late beginner to sewing. I used to sew all the time growing up but just recently in the past year picked back up on it.

You'll have to forgive me but all my aprons are using John Deere Themed fabric, which is what my kitchen theme is because my hubby just loves John Deer and I like yellow and green so I just went with it.
Lol...i just noticed the pillow case fabric is upside down. That is what I get for sewing late at night . :)

I like that you didn't have to cut anything out for the pillow case apron. You only have to make a few folds, sew them up and sew on ribbon. This makes a great craft apron and would also make a great gift. I like the two big pockets in the front and you could easily make it three pockets if you needed too. Don't have a spare pillowcase check thrift stores and dollar store for a cheap project.

The Quick and Easy Apron was just that only I added a few twists of my own. So it actually looks nothing like a half apron. Just picture the apron with out the bottom layer I added.  I'm not one to follow sewing patterns often. The instructions were very easy to understand and I had no trouble at all putting this one together.

I added a longer layer to the bottom that I ruffled a little and also added rickrack on the seam.

Of the eight patterns I really liked the Sassy apron but I didn't understand the measurements. This may just be from me not reading patterns often but I found it confusing so I passed on it.  I read through all the other patterns and had not trouble understanding. I just picked out the quick ones for now.

Aprons are making a comeback this fall so why not try your hand at a few!

I actually am working on a tutorial for a bandana apron. You're going to love them and I can't wait to share!

The Versatile Blogger Award

What a great surprise to my day! I hope I meet the expectations of the award but I'm super excited that I go it!

Many thanks to Libby for presenting me with this award.  :-)

The award comes with a few easy rules:

  • Thank the person who gave you the award.
  • Tell 7 things about yourself.
  • Award 15 other bloggers that you enjoy reading.

7 things about me that you may not know

1. I worked for Sonic -Drive in for 7 years- It was my first job and I loved it most the time :) I'm not good at roller skating and car-hoping at the same time.

2. I've played the piano since I was itty bitty and still love it to this day.  My part time job during the school year is teaching piano  to the beginner and early intermediate students at Heartland Baptist Bible College where I graduated from in 2004. Back to work on August 30th

3. I met my husband Shelby on myspace (not really- that's our joke). I actually met him in college doing my internship but  I had a boyfriend at the time and didn't give Shelby time of day. That relationship didn't work out and Shelby found me on myspace one night 3 years later and We've talked every night since.

4. I have a bad yarn addiction and my craft room is my living room.

5. I'm terrified of speaking in front of people or talking to people I don't know. I feel more comfortable playing piano for people then speaking.

6. My favorite color is green and yet most clothing in my closet is black and white.

7. I'm blessed with a fabulous family on both sides. I love them all and God has truly blessed.

Now, the rules of this award say that I must send this award to 15 people. I'm just going to list my favorites right now.  I'm sending this award to these people (in no particular order).  Perhaps you'll want to check out their blogs:

1. Mandy - Mandy's Yellow Corner
2. Sara - Posh Pooch Designs
3. Alessandra - Just Be Happy
4. Candace - Sparkle Power
5. Linda - Craftaholics Anonymous

Happy Birthday Love

Fun fact about my hubby's side of the family. His brother and sis- in- law have birthday's in April, His sister and bro-in-law have birthday's in November and we have birthday's in August. I think it's funny how that all worked out that we all share a birthday month. They said it was one of the requirements for how you know you've found the right one. Of course it's just a joke but we have fun with it.

Our family's are all really close and we spend time together on friday nights when we can. All five of the cousins play together and it's just sweet. I love his family and love the relationships we have. It's truly a blessing.

My Birthday was last week but today is my hubby's special day! Happy Birthday I love ya babe!
I thought I'd share some photos of us today!

This was from our wedding rehearsal. It my favorite picture of us!

Silly one from our wedding!

What's in a Name?

I've really been rolling the idea around of trying to come up with unique names for my many crochet hats, clips and headbands besides exactly what they are called. So I opened up an album on Facebook to gather ideas to name the hats. I'm looking for Names of your children, family or really whatever comes to mind when you look at the hat. We've already had some great responses but I want to open it up to more ideas.
If you'd like to come join the fun enter: --------> here. You'll have to be a fan of Calleigh's Clips to comment but I'm sure if your here you already might be :) if you're not a fan click here first .

If I choose the name you suggested for an item you'll get 20% off that item. Can't wait to see what you guys can come up with.

RM Photography - Cocoon/Pod

RM Photography

Rm Photography is run by a friend of our family Rebecca Manney! Let me tell you she takes fabulous pictures. We did a family photo shoot in April 2008 before we had Calleigh and we got some fabulous photos that I still have up in the living room today.  This wasn't just any photo shoot. It was a very windy day at the Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City, OK with a very active 18 month old and a very prego me.  We had a blast and got some great candid shots. She didn't stop for a minute chasing Ayden all over.
I don't have files to share photos with you or I totally would.

Rebecca takes a photojournalist approach in the photographs. That means she likes to photograph you being you. No stiff poses just fabulous shots of walking, talking, laughing. It doesn't stop there though. Any one can take photos but she really knows what she is doing with her camera and she edits very well. I think It takes extra special attention to detail to edit and she does just that.
You have to check out her photos on her blog: RM Photography .

Even though she's been doing photos for several years now she recently decided to venture out and do photography full time. She is already very successful and I know she'll do great. If you are in the OKC metro area and need a photographer that will take photos you'll cherish forever I highly recommend her.

She recently bought a baby cocoon/pod from me and had a few darling shots to share. I love having great photos of my products in use. If you're interested in purchasing this or other photo props you can browse my etsy shop.

RM Photography can also be found on facebook

These photos are copyright protected and are not to be redistributed or altered in any form.

If you're a photographer and your interested in any photo props I do work out special discount pricing for pictures in return just email me if your interested. I don't do this with just anyone that "says" they are a photographer and will determine who is eligible to receive discounts based on your work and I can be pretty picky :)

Christina's Cake Creations

Look What my fabulous Brother and Sister-In -law made for my birthday! It was a total surprise and I loved it! I play and teach piano and this cake couldn't be more perfect.

Christina (sis-in-law) has been enjoying making cakes over the past few years and I think she does a fabulous job! She loves to make them for holiday's birthdays, special occasions and more.

She really married the perfect guy for her too because my brother is very creative, artistic and love to cook! So this is something they enjoy doing together!

I think one day I can see them making a business out of this wonderful craft.

I only bake cakes. I've tried my hand at decorating and it's not for me!

Aren't they just a cute couple!

They even made a little me playing the piano

My face had a little accident on the way to the house. :)
Not only does this cake look great. It tasted awesome! It had three layers: Pineapple, strawberry filling and marble cake covered in a think layer of fondant. All so yummy!
Here are a few of her other creations!

I had some fabric I bought to make some dresses but never got around to yet....I just love all the bright colors and cherries. I just happened to have ribbon that matched perfectly.

Good Night Sleep Tight

Our Hammock was featured in an Etsy treasury called Good Night Sleep Tight! It's an adorable set of items! Come check it out!

Sewing & Shirring

Today I spent the evening sewing. I made a regular bandana dress but had to size it down for a 12 month old, a halloween themed bandana/pillowcase style dress for a 4 year old and then I had a plan to repurpose the Breast Cancer Bandana Dress with a new method called Shirring.

Shirring is sewing with elastic thread in the bobbin which causes the fabric to gather up. I've never done it but had seen several people posting tutorials for it. I don't think I did very good for the first time but I'm excited to try it again

I hadn't tried an actual pillowcase dress so I this is the first time I  put in armholes.  I think it looks so much cleaner than a regular bandana dress. Isn't this fabric adorable.

I also made my first fabric flower! I found this awesome blog that will show you 31 different types of flower to try!
Pink Paper Peppermints

Here is the breast cancer dress I did the shirring on.

I'm finding so many fun things I want to sew! Can't wait to share them with you!

Tuesday Tag Along - August 2, 2010

Tuesday Tag-Along

Weekend Creations

Every weekend I try to create something new. I had lots of ideas and some extra time so I have several to share.

1st up is the Giraffe Hat! I found this adorable pattern from The Crafty Tortoise. You can find her blog here or visit her etsy shop. I wanted the pattern but was going to wait. It happened that a friend asked if I could custom make one. Here it its!

2nd: Lady bug Earflap Hat

This is my own creation. My Mother in law and I both  love ladybugs so I just had to create this for Calleigh. I just love the little swirly antennas. I have more ideas on creating multi-color dot hat. I just love polka dots too!

3rd one - Bumble Bee Set

I hadn't had a chance to share a diaper cover that I liked yet. mostly just played around with the one pattern I have. I though this would bee a perfect set ;) I got the bee set Idea from The Inner Hooker. The diaper cover pattern is hers and the hat is my own design. This would make a cute newborn photo prop. I love the little curly stinger on the diaper cover! It's all in the details. I can't wait to make more diaper cover sets.
